"Mistress of Pontida" is a unique in Ukrainian literature adventure journey through the labyrinths of royal courts, lodges of secret societies, magical masquerades, traps of suspicious cheap inns and prison cells in pre-revolutionary Europe of the 1770s. The hero of this adventurous and deeply philosophical novel is the Ukrainian Cossack nobleman Yury Roslavets. Fascinated by the "lady of his heart" and a pretender to the imperial throne, he "chases the phenomenon" of his passion from Paris, through Germany to Venice, Naples, Rome and Pisa, experiencing heart-breaking adventures and being filled with life wisdom and a somewhat fatalistic understanding of life and the world .
This literary masterpiece was written in 1987 in New York by the controversial Ukrainian author, Lesya Ukrainka's nephew, Yury Kosach (1908–1990) - an outstanding, although still, unfortunately, little-known master of Ukrainian historical prose.
